A Makerspace is a place where students build on STEAM skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). We use our Media Center (Library and Technology Lab) for this space. There are cabinents filled with tools for the students to use to work together and collaborate to build things. Many students enjoy it so much they come down at their lunch periods to do more!
What is a circuit? How does it work? Students will create circuits using copper tape, dough, and makey makey tools. With these tools they can create an electric piano, greeting cards that light up, creatures that light up and much more. We also have many snap circuit kits and little bits kits to make circuits easily but encourage critical thinking. Using scientific concepts students will create many things.
What will you create this year? Using basic household items students will be given the opportunity to create parachutes, cardboard creatures, houses made of cards, mazes for robots to follow and anything else that they can think of! Using the tools such as the 3D pens, animation software and apps, the green room, and the robots in combination with the household items the choices are endless!
This is a period where creativity shines!
Depending on the grade level of the students they can use different robotic kits to create. Early coding skills are introduced as students learn to make the robot move and program it to do different tasks. We have robots for all grades from very basic to more advanced. The coding skills start very basic and move on to more advanced concepts.
Some of the tools we have for the students to work with include: A programable caterpillar, snap circuits, little bits coding kits, 3D pens, 3D printer, ozobots, edison robots, sphero robots, circuit clay, chromebooks for using coding apps, makey makey kits, a green room, and more. The students love it!
