Technology is a lifestyle for students in the twenty-first century. The technology competencies of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Saint Luke Catholic School are based upon the ISTE National Standards. They provide a platform for developing proficiency while encouraging the integration of technology with the curriculum through authentic avenues. The skills are designed to build engaged, empowered learners where the students are consumers and producers of learning. Technology is a tool that facilitates the process of gathering, curating and utilizing information to create products that will illustrate and extend understanding of information.
Education is a life-long excursion. Twenty-first century students require Digital Age Learning and a call to "Think with Technology" and use it in both a safe and ethical manner to navigate the journey. At Saint Luke Catholic School we strive to meet these goals.

In grades K-2 students learn about the care, parts and functions of computers. They learn to log in the computer, as well as how to navigate, create, save and edit documents. These students learn about keys on the keyboard, postition of fingers on how to navigate with the mouse and finger. They open, close and save documents and programs. They learn about being safe and respecting others online.
Students are introduced to these skills by using various programs through the years. They start with TuxPaint, KidPix3D and eventually move to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint on an introductory level. They also use a browser to follow links and practice skills on different websites.
Very basic picture block coding is introduced at this level.
Students in 3rd to 5th grade begin by getting their own logins for the computers as well as GSuite accounts. They continue to Work in the Microsoft Office application but also start to work in the Google Docs, Draw, and Slides programs. By 5th grade they have a basic understanding of which programs are better depending on what they are creating and how they need to share it. They start to use Google Classroom and other web apps.
Digital Citizenship is reinforced at a higher level and students demonstate their understanding by creating presentations on related topcs, answering questions posted to Google Classroom, and citing sources.

Skill levels continue to build and the 5th to 8th grade students are ready to take them to the next level. Old skills are reinforced. They create multimedia presentations, turn slides into movies, develop more advanced skills in documents and spreadsheets and save items in multiple locations.
Digital Citizenship lessons continue at this age with an emphasis on digital footprints, respecting others online, and safety. Movies and discussions are on Google Classroom. Students are given school email accounts to use for school purposes.
At this age they begin using some of the tools from the Adobe Suite. These vary from Premiere, and Fireworks for animation.
